Challenge #1 - Make These Shapes
For this week's challenge I was asked to make a series of shapes using various commands, inside a 3D modelling software that I have never heard of before - much less used. I found this software much more difficult to work with than other software that I have used in the past, namely Blender. First impressions were not good as I had to start over completely multiple times due to the software malfunctioning to the point that I could not navigate through the document. Nonetheless, I was eventually able to make my way through the document, while learning how to use some basic commands in order to achieve the desired results.
The first shape was easy, I just used the circle diameter tool to create it. The following shapes were created in much the same way.
The next shape, the star, was created much the same way but the tool did have some additional steps for defining where the points would be that took an extra second to ensure I got just right.
Next, I learned how to use the copy command in combination with Osnap in order to create the following shapes.
Then I learned to use the arc tool to create the next shape.
The next step was for me to learn how to use the rotate command to create 3 more shapes. This took some getting used to but in the end was not overly difficult.
After learning how to rotate shapes around, it was time for me to learn how to trim away lines that I no longer required.
This was the part where things started to get complicated on me, the offset command. It took me longer than I care to admit to realize that I needed to specify the distance of the offset and use trial and error until I got the distance that I was looking for.
After this I tackled the shapes that made use of the split command, this was relatively straight forward.
The last two tools that I learned to use were probably the hardest for me to figure out. The fillet tool and the array along a curve command. But in the end I was able to reproduce the shapes.
I did not picture each individual shape I created, as that would have required going back to tools that I had already covered. But in the end I was able to recreate all of the shapes in the challenge and wound up with a page that looked like the image below. The only command that I was unable to figure out and therefore had to use a different method to create the shape was the center snap command. I was unable to find the tool or the command to try it out and thus I just made the shape using techniques I had already learned throughout the challenge.
